Island Hopping on Fuerteventura Holidays

The Canary Islands, off the coast of West Africa, consist of 7 islands and 6 islets. As an island community, you will see many sailing boats around the islands. In addition to ferries and fishing boats, you will see luxury yachts, submarine-winged vessels, catamarans, cargo ships and pleasure boats, including glass-bottomed boats, which are a major tourist attraction. Each island of the archipelago has its own personality, and many people come to Fuerteventura on vacation, determined to travel from island to island and explore many islands. Although there are 8 airports in the Canary Islands, by far the most interesting way to get from island to island is by boat.

Each island is connected by a ferry network. There are regular ferries with a steel hull, working on fuel oil. New and fast ferries are made of aluminum and run on diesel. They develop a speed of 30 knots compared to the top speed of the old ferries at 20 knots. A regular ferry ride from Las Palmas to Tenerife takes up to 8 hours, while newer and faster ferries cover the same trip in 2.5 hours. Submarines and catamarans can carry large numbers of passengers and cargo, including cars and agricultural equipment.

Tenerife is the most popular holiday destination for holidaymakers in the Canary Islands. Here Teide dominates the landscape. There are vineyards, golden beaches and lush vegetation. It is also an important endpoint for all shipping, making every island of the archipelago accessible directly or with a single transfer. The pride of these reservoirs is the large modern ferries that depart from Los Cristianos or Santa Cruz. Ferries are only part of the sea transport to and from the port of Las Palmas on Gran Canaria. Every year, more than a million tourists vacationing in Gran Canaria are brought here by ferries. Freighters are also a reliable site, leaving the islands with a load of Canary bananas and tomatoes. You can also rent luxury yachts with a crew or sail on your own. One of the most popular excursions is a tour of Fuerteventura, a yacht trip takes just under 3 hours.
